As a gainfully employed adult, there is nothing more depressing than the summer. I have so many wistful memories of perfect summer, none more so perfect than the summer of 1997. The airwaves were full of Dave Matthews, Backstreet Boys, and my song of the summer, “Semi-Charmed Life.” I had my license, my own car, and a job that kept me home on the weekends, while my parents went down the shore. I had freedom and good tunes.
And there were boys. Endless boys to flirt with in the summer. Girlfriends, silliness, and flirting with boys (with the occasional make-out sesh).
Now summers are full of client meetings, endless traffic and cubicle doldrums. It lacks the silliness, the flirting, the capricious spirit one has with a lack of real responsibilities.
I sometimes wonder where those boys of summer have gone.
Now some lucky ones may have the chance to reconnect with lost loves of summers past or school years past. A new reality show is casting and looking to reunite people with long lost flames.
This will definitely help when you cannot remember the boy with the bright blue eyes’ name. Although it could be slightly more awkward than attempting to friend that crush from overnight camp on facebook and he ignore your request…
What was your favorite summer?
