Hook EMma Once Upon A Time, TV couples

Who Else is Missing Their Favorite TV Couples This Summer?

in on 07/10/14 by Carrie-Jo 11 Comments

Although summer TV is better than it was when we were kids, (Remember when all the networks showed during the summer were re-runs of their full-season shows–and it was never the good episodes?) I’m still missing my favorite shows. While I’ve been enjoying The Night Shift (which has some potential couples to ship) and So You Think You Can Dance (or, you know, I will now that the endless audition shows are over), it’s not quite the same as Downton Abbey or Once Upon a Time.

But while I enjoy the summer weather and all that comes along with it, I’m eagerly awaiting what will happen to my favorite TV couples come fall.

And what better way to get me through the TV dry spell than a gif post of the couples I’m shipping?

NOTE: SPOILERS AHEAD. If you still aren’t current on your DVR, and haven’t seen season finales, STOP READING!

(You have been warned.*)

Jake Peralta and Amy Santiago from Brooklyn Nine-Nine

I’m not a fan of the man-child, in fiction or in real life. So I don’t know how Andy Samberg and the writers of this show have sold me on Jake Peralta, but I love him. Maybe it’s because he’s always got a timely quip ready. Possibly because he is dedicated to his job, so doesn’t seem completely irresponsible. Most likely, it’s because he comes off less as a man-child and more as a little boy in a man’s body–endearing and ridiculous all at the same time.

His relationship with Amy seems like an elementary school crush. They compete more than they flirt, he’s mean to her before he suddenly says something sweet, and he denies (to himself and everyone else) that he even has feeling for her. It’s a little like watching grown-ups act out a middle grade novel (with considerably more adult humor).

My favorite moments between them were an episode where Amy lost a bet, and had to go on The Worst Date Ever, which spawned moments like this:

Brooklyn99Insider-Santiago-Peralta Worst Date Proposal 2

Brooklyn99Insider-Peralta-Santiago-Not Allowed to Fall in Love 1  Brooklyn99Insider-Peralta-Santiago-Not Allowed to Fall in Love 2 Brooklyn99Insider-Peralta-Santiago-Not Allowed to Fall in Love 3

And in the season finale, when Jake confessed his feelings for her, as awkwardly as any 12-year-old boy would:

cliffhanger-1 cliffhanger-2 cliffhanger-4 cliffhanger-5 cliffhanger-6 cliffhanger-7 cliffhanger-8

I know some might consider this heresy to even say this, but these two remind me a little bit of Jim and Pam (the early days).

It Only Took Seven Seasons, But Leonard and Penny are Finally Engaged!

Honestly, I don’t watch The Big Bang Theory  for the romantic relationships. I watch it for the laughs. But I loved how the Lorre team finally got these two together:

I Want Lady Mary with Lord Gillingham

Really, I want her back with Matthew.  But since I hate story lines with ghosts in them**, he’s my current choice.

My (Current) Favorite Love Story on TV

I’ve been mildly obsessed with Once Upon a Time since the first episode aired. I think the writers of the show are brilliant (so far, not a single episode has felt like filler to me). There are just so many great story arcs. Whether it’s breaking the curse, travelling between worlds, saving Henry, or time travel, I’ve enjoyed each one from beginning to end. I can’t wait to see what they do next season.

I love how flawed-yet-strong all the women are on the show. Even better, they don’t make the men on the show weak so the women can be strong. They’re equals, just the way they should be.

And I’ve simply swooned over the Hook/Emma romance. He’s pursued her pretty much since he met her, and her stated disinterest hasn’t deterred him. (Yes, in real life, this would be stalker-ish. In fiction–especially when it’s clear there’s some interest between them and he isn’t physically forcing himself on her in any way–I can ignore that. I like persistence.)

And just in the season finale alone, they had some awesome  moments:

So what TV couples are you missing this summer? Do you love any of the same ones as me?

*Remember when someone got mad I “spoiled” Matthew Crawley’s death 9 MONTHS after it happened?

**Yeah, even in popular YA books. Not a fan.
