You guys, YAHOO is going to be a thing again. In a clutch last minute move, Sony signed with Yahoo Screen to bring the sixth season of Community to the fans. I would be lying if when seeing the news late Monday night, I didn’t ask the internet if it was a hoax. Alas, we can finally rejoice in the amazing news that Jeff and Annie may still get together in the next season or even the movie.
You read that correctly. We are not only promised the sixth season of Community, but a movie! Sony Execs told the Hollywood Reporter:
I don’t know, let’s see how our movie does! Isn’t that our plan? There’s no way we’re not making the movie now! I think once we make the movie, let’s look up and decide how much more Community the world wants. We promised six seasons and a movie, how much more do you want?! [Laughs.] … I’d be lying if I told you that we have not had some very early and preliminary conversations that are very exciting about what a potential movie could be and who might direct it. It’s early but it’s completely in our thought process.
This happened and we didn’t even have to do kickstarter campaign. The community of dedicated Community fans made it happen by sheer will power or by the magic power of gifs on Tumblr (Yahoo owned). You decide.
There is also talk of getting the Childish Gambino, Donald Glover back for the next season. Can I get a Pop, Pop!?!
The Troy and Abed in the morning moments are some of my favorite. Yahoo, I’d be okay if you even did a mini web series of just them hosting a fake morning show.
So let’s take a moment to appreciate this win for the little people..or the millions that watched this show but the ratings didn’t show it.
