For the month of May we read Mandy McGinnis’ YA debut novel, Not a Drop to Drink and Christina Lauren’s first in the Wild Seasons series, Sweet Filthy Boy (see us talk to them about it here).
We loved both of these books, but as usual in our booziest of hangouts, we talked about fanfiction and Billy Burke. Okay, maybe we’ve never talked about Billy Burke before, but this time we did. A Lot.
If you missed the Hangout, here it is:
And if you don’t have an hour, here are the highlights:

Boozy Book Club for June
This month we are reading the first in Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series.
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.
Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her… but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead… quickly followed by another.
Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
This a trilogy that is concluding in September, and according to Bekah … EVERYONE at BEA was chomping at the bit to get a copy of Heir of Fire. I know some of you have already read Throne of Glass (I have), but it’s a good time to read the whole series since it’s ending soon.
Optional Book:
Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour:
A love letter to the craft and romance of film and fate in front of—and behind—the camera from the award-winning author of Hold Still.
A wunderkind young set designer, Emi has already started to find her way in the competitive Hollywood film world.
Emi is a film buff and a true romantic, but her real-life relationships are a mess. She has desperately gone back to the same girl too many times to mention. But then a mysterious letter from a silver screen legend leads Emi to Ava. Ava is unlike anyone Emi has ever met. She has a tumultuous, not-so-glamorous past, and lives an unconventional life. She’s enigmatic…. She’s beautiful. And she is about to expand Emi’s understanding of family, acceptance, and true romance.
Please talk all about these books on the Goodreads forum during the month! Your thoughts and comments really help us narrow down what you want us to talk about each month ( and we need all the help we can get not rambling and going off on tangents about Twilight, Outlander or sex — or all three).
