There’s No “Mockingjay” Trailer Yet and I’m Enraged

in on 05/28/14 by Jamie W 4 Comments

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of “The Hunger Games.” I went nuts over the “Catching Fire” trailer that was released at Comic-Con last July, and then wrote a love poem to the movie when it came out in November. I’m super excited by the set pictures that have been surfacing from the “Mockingjay: Part 2” filming that’s going on in Europe. It looks like the movie is going to be so great I won’t even be able to stand it. So you can bet that I have some pretty strong feelings about the fact that fans haven’t seen a single frame of footage for “Mockingjay: Part 1,” which comes out this November. Those feelings range from unbridled anger to never ending fury. We’re like five months out from a movie this huge, and we’ve seen absolutely nothing?

I refuse to accept this. A lot of fans thought that surely Lionsgate (the studio behind the movies) would do the same thing they did last year and premiere the first trailer at the MTV Movie Awards, which aired in mid-April. Which we all distinctly remember because that show was painful to sit through. All we wanted to see was a two minute trailer and we had to sit through hours of absolute garbage for it. That’s some hardcore dedication for you. But the MTV Movie Awards came and went this year and there was no trailer. Fine, I’m all for mixing things up and not being too predictable. But it’s been about a month and a half since then. When the entire “Mockingjay” cast showed up at the Cannes Film Festival recently I thought, “Okay, this is it. A big film festival is the perfect time to premiere the first trailer for such a highly anticipated movie.

But it didn’t happen then either. Oh wait, I’m sorry. I’m being unfair, they did release this.

WOW. That was ming blowing and totally makes up for the fact that there’s no hint of an actual trailer anywhere to be found. Are you actually serious Lionsgate? What are the absurd thoughts going through your head? They can’t be waiting until Comic-Con in July to show any kind of a trailer, right? That’s unacceptable to me! If this were old time-y Renaissance era I would walk right up to Lionsgate, slap them with my glove, and challenge them to a duel. This time last year we already had one trailer for “Catching Fire,” and while it’s not a rule that the studio has to follow the same pattern every time, it seems weird that they aren’t. We all know they have the footage, and Lionsgate has to know that people are dying to see it and will be nothing but excited, so why the hell are they keeping a “Mockingjay” trailer from us?

So I don’t sound too negative, I’ll say that they did release a few stills that show Haymitch, Beetee, Plutarch (Philip Seymour Hoffman had mostly completed his filming for the series when he tragically passed away in February, so he’ll still be in the movies), and Juliane Moore as President Coin, who look like she’s going to be killer.

And they’re great and all, but they’re also making me even more impatient for a trailer that I can watch a thousand times frame by frame. (Of course I’ll being breaking it down in depth when it’s finally released.) I’ve seen a theory that Lionsgate is just going to drop the trailer out of nowhere at any random time just to see the fandom implode. Which I would be fine with as long as that time is right freaking now. I need to lose my mind over it and cry forever about Peeta.

I know I can’t be the only “Hunger Games” fan that’s frustrated by the lack of trailer. It’s going to be a joyous day when it finally arrives! What moments from the book do you hope make it into our first look at the movie?
