I appreciate this book for a number of reasons, not least of which is it makes me feel better about my own difficulty in drawing feet and hands. Feet and hands are hard, you guys. Any doubts I had about the merits of this book went away once I started coloring: this is the perfect stress reliever! It lets you do something mildly arty, with your hands, but you don’t have to make any big decisions or be that creative. It’s glorious.
Let’s get one thing out of the way right now: not all of these drawings look like their intended ladies. But you know what? That’s half the fun, and it doesn’t really matter.
Another thing I learned while working my way through the book is that coloring leads to some awkward moments with your favorite heroines.
I just have to quickly do this and then we can not talk about it ever again, okay? The other awkward thing here is skin color. You should probably make sure you have a legit colored pencil set with some different flesh tone options before embarking on this journey. I tried my best, Bey, but…
…I just don’t know. It would be pretty cool if coloring books came with the skin tone already decided for you, so you didn’t have to make it truly awful or make everyone stark white (which is what I did eventually).
I love that the author, Mel Elliot, includes little blurbs with most of these drawings. They have a distinctly sassy and #normal vibe, which you know I can get behind. For example, Beyonce’s:
Screw a week, I’d take a day or an hour! Then I found someone in the book who I’m not sure if you guys know, so I’ll introduce her:
Behold, the lone reason some of you might want this book:
I mean, she DID say “punk tattoos,” didn’t she? I couldn’t not.
Regardless of whether you’ll be using this as a personal Kstew voodoo doll, this thing offers some pretty lovely art. I might be framing a few of these, and didn’t want to muck them up with my lame coloring skills too much.

This is a really fun book, and my only request would be a watercolor option! I wanted to try to paint some of these, but the paper seemed like it would have melted instantly. I think this would be an awesome ladies’ night activity with copious amounts of wine. Do it! You can grab a copy right here.
Have you tried any other “adult” coloring books? Do you love the constraints of coloring, or do you prefer to blaze your own trail outside the lines?
This book was (awesomely) provided by the publisher for review. All opinions, however, are my own!
