It’s been almost a year since we started talking about our favorite Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon being made into a premium television series on Starz, and finally having a date, (even more so than casting announcements and shooting commencement), makes it all feel VERY real and VERY soon.

The new poster that they released with the premiere date sets the tone for the show: Claire’s consternation at being torn between Frank (and what she knows) and Jamie (what she doesn’t) and gives us a bright poster-ific view the FOUR main characters: Claire, Jamie, a hint of Frank and … Scotland, where the show and the book are set and where filming is still taking place.
With 16 episodes in which to tell the epic story, Starz has a hefty order to fill with adventure, lore, magic, violence, sex and romance. Most premium shows like this one are lucky to get 10 or 12, and sometimes they don’t get that until well into their 3rd or 4th seasons. The Walking Dead had a 6 episode order for season 1. Game of Thrones, The Tudors and Vikings have all aired just 10 episodes per season.
And let’s be real: if the show does well (get on the telly now, Aunt Linda) then there are 7 -maybe 8- more books just in the main series, waiting in the wings. We could be looking at a seriously long-running and successful adaptation with tons more characters, locations, history and adventure. And when it comes to spreading the word, our game is strong.
Wait.
Stop.
Back it up.
That post doesn’t feel very #normal, so before I forget that I dropped my journalism major my sophomore year and went with a BFA in Sarcasm, here’s our real That’s Normal reaction post.
