Here are a few of things we expected to happen during the final episode of the season and a possible explanation for why it didn’t:
Expectation: Juan Pablo’s family would say really great things about him
Reality: They totes threw him under the bus. His mom said he can be rude and has made her cry. His cousin said he runs from relationships at the first sign of trouble. His dad said he can be too stubborn.
Possible explanation: He was born an asshole and they don’t know what else to say.
Expectation: Juan Pablo would have had some emotions about sending Clare home
Reality: He wasn’t feeling any emotions. He basically just told her “I’m going to have to send you home.” Then tried to hug her. Like he assumed she was ready to accept what he had said! Ay ay ay. She denied his hug. Go Clare.
Possible explanation: He didn’t have strong feelings towards her and was just really physically attracted to her. Duh. We knew that all along.
Expectation: Juan Pablo would tell Nikki he loved her and propose after sending Clare home
Reality: He told her he wasn’t ready to be committed and engaged yet but wanted to keep dating her. He didn’t tell her he loved her (even after she said it to him). She got a rose instead of a ring. Ouch!
Possible Explanation: This is pretty obvious. He’s not in love with her and not ready to date her. Glad he didn’t do anything he wasn’t ready for
Expectation: Juan would pronounce his love to Nikki on live TV during the After the Final Rose
Reality: Nada. Chris Harrison pushed and pushed (& pushed a little too hard) to get him to say it. He asked him multiple times if he was in love with Nikki. JP wouldn’t budge. And Nikki was sitting right there! It was actually one of the most awkward things I’ve ever seen on TV.
Possible Explanation A: Juan Pablo isn’t actually in love with Nikki
Possible Explanation B: Juan Pablo wanted to screw over ABC by not giving them what they wanted because he was fed up at what they made him out to be. (He had talked about how they filmed over 600 hours worth of footage but only showed 20 hours, implying that they didn’t air a lot of things that would’ve changed the public opinion about him.)
So Juan Pablo didn’t meet a lot of people’s expectations for one reason or another. He didn’t seem to leave on good terms with ABC. And people are talking about it. Some are mad and angry, and some are still defending him. But here’s my final thought: isn’t that the point of the show? For people to watch and talk about it? Isn’t it pure entertainment?
I may have changed my opinion about Juan Pablo as a suitable dating partner for me, but I still watched the entire season and was entertained by it. I honestly didn’t know what was going to happen at the end and was surprised up until the last minute. Did Juan Pablo turn people off from watching the show next season? I’m not sure. But don’t worry everyone, “it’s okay” because Andi is going to be a fabulous Bachlorette!
