Divergent Does Los Angeles

Saturday, Divergent hit Los Angeles to continue their whirlwind, coast-to-coast, never ending story, press tour with the official Divergent press junket and yours truly was invited. If you were following along on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, I wouldn’t have blamed you for unfollowing us but honestly, we all need as many Theo James pictures and videos in our lives as possible, the Maggie Q pic was just a bonus or for my teacher friend who was taking a recertification test and loves Nikita. BUT WHATEVER.

So let’s jump in… so one of the best things about junkets is the free breakfast and sometimes lunch if you’re there long enough. In fact, the Four Seasons is known for it’s breakfast AND a little something called vodka soaked pineapple which may or may not have fueled the Warm Bodies and The Host junkets last year, but you didn’t hear that from me. The other great thing about junkets is the free swag, guys I’m the proud owner of a Divergent baseball hat, now all I need is a 5 year old and a tee ball game to wear it at at.

The other thing about junkets is sometimes if it’s a big movie (the powers that be think Divergent will be a big movie) so they do stuff like press conferences instead of tables or one on ones so they can cram more people in. Witness about 100 press people in a hotel ball room in chairs so close you’d think you were in the middle seat on a cross country flight on Spirit Airlines.

Then it was time for the first group

Mekhi Phifer, Maggie Q, Christian Madsen, Ben Lloyd Hughes, Jai Courtney and Miles Teller aka the clown car of panels. Clearly this group was also riding on Spirit Airlines.

The important stuff you need to know from this group is that Miles Teller has named his own fan group Peter’s Princesses and Maggie Q has a much bigger following than I originally thought. Like most of the questions were for her and then she was accosted after the group was done by reporters wanting to chat with her or get a lock of hair. Who knows.

Then it was time for author Veronica Roth, director and silver fox Neil Burger and two of the producers. What you need to know from this group: Shailene was always the front runner and who they wanted to play Tris but it wasn’t till six weeks before they started shooting that they found Theo James. When shown Theo’s audition tape, Veronica made a “whew, he’s hot” waving motion and they knew they had found him. Whew it right!

Next up was Ansel Elgort aka Caleb aka Gus aka smiles for miles along with Tony Goldwyn aka President Fitz or at least that’s what everyone was calling him and wanted to talk about. Sorry ya’ll, I don’t watch Scandal but I guess this is a big deal! Poor lil Ansel, no one wanted to talk about his rock climbing or DJ-ing or whatever he’s into this week. BUUUTT I did ask him about his involvement with social media and how the fans have received him. He made an amazing comment about being welcomed by the fans of both Divergent and The Fault in our Stars because the fans love the characters he plays and it’s all due to that love of those characters and not him. Awwwww, Ansel!

Then it was time for Theo to pose and smirk and eye raise his way through 15 minutes of questions about Four and Shailene and kissy smushy stuff:

Time for everyone’s fave hippie soul child Shailene Woodley.

Honestly guys, she’s super freaking cute… and then she starts telling you about astrology and climbing the Ferris Wheel on Navy Pier during a super moon or she tells you about how 2013 was heavy for her because it was the year of the snake and you’re like WHO ARE YOU AGAIN??? Oh yes, the girl from Secret Life of the American Teenager, Descendants, The Spectacular Now and Mary Jane before she was cut from The Amazing Spiderman. I really want to like her and I do minus her DUMB DUMB DUMMY comments that came out yesterday about Twilight which she so obviously hasn’t seen or read and which is a fictional fantasy story ALSO from Summit, the studio who is putting out Divergent which is also a fictional fantasy story… Oh Shailene… so close… soooo soooo close.
