Now that’s something I want to read about

in on 02/26/14 by Jamie 13 Comments

A couple weeks ago, I wrote about my love for dance flicks and how they fill a tutu-shaped hole in my heart.  I can’t even remember if I had been watching the last season of Dance Academy and that is what inspired my post or my longing for some super heightened teen emotions coupled with some dance competitions fueled my writing, but regardless I have fallen down a rabbit-hole of grand jetés, piqué turns and hormones. Since my post, I have rewatched 3 seasons, cyber stalked the cast, and made impassioned pleas to friends and coworkers to watch this show so I could discuss it at length with other grown adults. Man, do I got it bad. I at least felt some slight justification after finding an article in New York Magazine about some other grown adult’s addiction to this show.

While trying to convince fellow blogger, Elise why she just had to watch this show, I started to talk about related books that I would so read in a heartbeat and came up with the following YA book idea:

Snarky Ballerina Detective

Our main protaganist was ready to give up on dance when her older sister is mysteriously found dead at a prestigious ballet school/boarding school. Younger sister auditions and is accepted to said school where she is determined to find out if her sister’s death was truly an accident. While finding out that she has excellent detective skills, she also rekindles her love for dance or is it really her love for a fellow dance student that fuels her passions? Did I mention hard bodies that are super flexible?

I quickly realized that I somehow just wrote an Alternate Universe fan fic to the Fever Series where Mac does ballet and has the detective skill of Veronica Mars. Regardless, that’s a story that I want read about. Get on that universe.

And while the universe is at it, and New Adult fiction is full steam ahead, here are a few more stories that I definitely want to read about:

What Happens at Overnight Camp, Stays at Overnight Camp

Just like Deeper author Robin York, I have always wanted some great overnight or sleep-away camp fiction. I spent my childhood going to day camps and then overnight camps and know how many hot counselors spends their summers together. Overnight camps, especially traditional ones on the east coast attract counselors from the UK and Australia. I’m not even kidding, there are programs dedicated to placing (hot) Australians abroad. I would totally be down with reading about a summer romance between a hot male counselor with an accent and a witty, sporty junior counselor from New Jersey. Perhaps this romance takes place over multiple summers with some summers where they date other hot counselors? Sign me up.

Romance Runs Rampant in the Olympic Village

Ever since the winter Olympics in Vancouver 4 years ago, I have been craving an Olympic Village romance. I mean, this clearly exists since the Olympic villages are supplied with so many condoms. Imagine a story where a straight-laced, extremely focused figure skater falls for the wild bad boys of slopestyle skiing (let’s ignore the fact that most of the guys are likely conservative Mormons from Utah.) If I were 10 years younger, I definitely wouldn’t kick any of these medal winners out of my bed (I’m too lazy to confirm that all of these men are in their early 20s. Let’s just pretend they are.)

Hot Actor falls for Cosplaying Comic Con Attendee

While I am sure this exists in some squicky RPF (Real person fic not Robert Pattinson Fic although Rob fic definitely does exist), let’s take some imaginary actor, perhaps with the body and well, the face of Stephen Amell and write a fun fantasy of the guy falling for the girl that doesn’t even watch his show  (that’s at least how she’s going to play it off.) Yes, I realize that this was very specifically cast in my head and no it has nothing to do with the after effects of following Stephen Amell on FB and wanting him to be mine for always and forever — he’s totally married with a baby. It’s not going to happen (repeat to self 10x). Although series, I want some women dressed as Kaylee in a coverall to find some nerdy love.

First, please let me know if these story ideas exist already in book form. What other story ideas do you want to see happen? Btw, have you watched Dance Academy yet?
