Let’s talk about the contestants.
I’m not going to be overly critical of the girls or predict who is going to go cray. I’m all for sisterhood here, folks, and while it’s not my style to imply judgments about these women based on the misogynistic media content controlled by old, white men who aim to dictate what we perceive as “normal,” (uhh, what?), I do want to discuss the women we are seeing Monday after Monday. I will try my best to say very nice things about some of the contestants based on what we know
Cassandra: 21 year old Former NBA Dancer:
For starters, what does Former NBA dancer even mean? For all we know her girl scout troop danced to Where Have all the Daisies Gone during the Milwaukee Bucks pre-game show in 1997 (apparently that’s a real team.) If that’s the case I would like to change my profession to Former Hot Pocket Taste Tester, as I used to eat a lot of Hot Pockets and have tried all the flavors. All delicious, btw.
It is quite baffling that JP is so into Cassandra. They don’t seem to have too much chemistry or do a whole lot of talking, but he’s like, really into her. She has a 2 year old son which automatically makes her more mature and desirable than some of the other women, but she is still 21 years old. Come on, she’s practically a baby!
What were you doing when you were 21? I bet it went something like this: slept through your 9 am class, did the “8 minute abs” workout on VHS, stopped half way to eat a strawberry frosted pop tart, watched 3 hours of Dawson’s Creek, took a nap and called it a day. Can you imagine being a step mom to a 4 year old on top of that busy schedule!? Aint nobody got time for that.
Lucy: 24 year old Free Spirit:
Was anyone else a little disappointed when Free Spirit didn’t receive a rose? She was starting to grow on me. I mean, let’s be honest, not the best choice for a step mom for Camila. She likes to be naked in public and considers being a “free spirit” a profession. Last time I checked, no one gives you a pay check for not wearing shoes and dancing with flowers on your head, unless the being naked part is how she makes an income. Again, she’s proving my point about not being the best step mom. Lucy added an interesting twist to this season, and I am glad they cast someone who was a teensy tiny bit different from the norm. (Except she was exactly the same….)
Sharleen: 29 year old Opera Singer:
Oh Sharleen you sly fox. In the beginning she didn’t seem to want to accept Juan Pablo’s rose in the first episode. As previously discussed, you accept anything JP tries to give you. Now she’s tongue locked with him (anyone else notice their awkward make-out sesh on the soccer field?) and doesn’t want to share. I have a strange feeling about her.
Andi: 26 year old Assistant District Attorney:
I’m going to spill the beans and admit Andi is one of my favorites for Juan Pablo. Did you know she got a murderer convicted in just 8 minutes? Dayum Andi! She seems confident and strong and has good morals. As long as I am not an option, and based on the things we know about her, I choose Andi for JP.
So to recap….
Who wishes we knew more about the women? While we want Juan Pablo to fall in love, we are kept in the dark about the women he is dating. Hmmm. Do you think it’s the old, white men controlling what we see? Yep, I blame it on them. Come on Harold, get with the program.
