A few weeks ago I was flipping through channels and I saw this:
How can you not stop and watch when Joseph Gordon-Levitt is on the screen?!? It was a preview for his upcoming show HitRECord on TV. After watching the preview I set an alarm on my phone to remember to set my DVR, and because I set alarms on my phone for everything. Although it doesn’t officially air on Pivot until January 18, the first episode is posted online.
Once I was done melting over JGL smiling and looking so adorable in his suit and mismatched socks, and got into the show I knew it was one my whole family would be watching every week. In our house imagination and creativity rank right up there with sharing and playing nice with others. HitRECord is all of that and more.
The show is the brainchild of JGL and his brother, Dan. It is comprised of shorts made up of short stories, poetry, songs, and other arts brought to life through various forms of animation, filming, and photography all centered around a common theme for each episode.
HitRECord is more than just entertainment. It’s a collaborative effort brought to life by thousands of people all around the world. It was started in 2005 and has created short films shown at various film festivals. There are also books and CDs from the various collaborations. Online contributors submit their writings, songs, pictures… basically whatever they want to be shared and worked on together to form something entirely wonderful and unique.
The first episode is centered around the number 1. JGL’s enthusiasm is infectious and it should be. The first clip was a beautifully touching true story of a women with night blindness and the first time she saw the stars. There was a segment on the largest living organisms in the world, so both informative and entertaining. Some rap, some cartoons, and an overall positive message and, oh yeah, JGL sings and plays the piano.
All in all it made for an fun show and I’m looking forward to the next episode and checking out some of the other offerings on http://www.hitrecord.org/. Join me on there and maybe it’ll inspire you to get creative too.
