One of the “work” things we did was make drinks for friends & visitors with our spirits from Art in the Age. We told you all about that here. Another thing we did was convince one of our new friends to sit down for an interview. No, our friend wasn’t cosplaying (sadly), nor was he LARPing, but he does have a pretty cool connection to something/someones we love here at That’s Normal, and we thought you’d like to find out what we learned.
We sat down with new friend, book editor Adam Wilson. Adam has been Christina Lauren’s editor on the Beautiful Bastard Book Series, and he works for Simon & Schuster. As I was prepping to write this post I re-watched the video and really enjoyed it, even though I was there the first time. Here are a few things you might hear or learn during this interview:
- We did an interview in our hotel bedroom. The bed is very prominantely seen during the video
- The word “vulva” may or may not be used
- Jamie coined our drink of the night (Sage, Tonic and Lime) The Beautiful Bastard
- We, of course, somehow find a way to bring up The Fever Series.
We breakdown the video below!
Interview with Beautiful Bastard Book Editor Adam Wilson
1:10 We ask how Adam got into the editing world (This is the question in which we learn he used to work for Harlequin..)
4:20 What does Adam call the girls? Christian Lauren, Christian AND Lauren or what?
He has a few cute nicknames for them (And our fav is “The Beautiful Authors”)
6:10 We discuss the new book genre “New Adult”
7:30 Adam tells us his favorite genres to read (other than urban fantasy & romance obviously) HE HAS HEARD OF THE FEVER SERIES LADIES (but hasn’t read it. sad panda)
9:40 He talks about how the editing process works. It’s much more interesting than it seems.
11:10 We ask, does Adam have a list of euphemisms for body parts he never wants to hear again? Answer: yes
13:40 Is it weird that Adam is straight male editing erotica novels for females. Answer: kinda, but no.
15:35 Adam tells us where he wants the Beautiful series to go–(away! we kid, we kid…)
17:20 We ask Adam who his favorite Beautiful series character is- and it’s one we don’t know a ton about yet: Will, who Adam describes as a “hunky, self-avowed nerd” And SPOILER: There is sex in the book.
17:45 Which characters does Adam think would come to Comic Con? Plus we get some sneak peeks into the next novella Beautiful Bombshell
19:30 Adam thinks Christian Lauren have improved so much sinCe book #1. And admits he’s never read Twilight fan fiction, but has read One Direction slash fic (THAT’S A JOKE)
*Side note: Before our interview SOMEHOW (I’d really like to know how) slash-fiction came up. Adam had heard of it but didn’t know what it was. And we couldn’t let him live another day without knowing exactly what that means, lest he go into a meeting and tell people at Simon & Schuster that they should start publishing slash fic and the girls from That’s Normal are 100% behind it.
Around 21:00 we’re having a convo about a book from a guy’s point of view and how women CRAVE that perspective (Hello Midnight Sun. Have you heard of it? Well, we tell Adam about it. Obvs)
24:20: We ask what Adam would cosplay as if he were to cosplay at Comic Con
26:00 And somehow we get on Taylor Kitsch and Friday night lights. And end it with a suggestion that Taylor Kitsch stars in better films…
Hope you enjoyed our interview! We had a ton of fun & a big thanks to Adam Wilson for coming up to camp That’s Normal to sit awkwardly near a bed & be on camera! The interview got me super excited for Beautiful Bombshell and Beautiful Player!
