If you have paid attention to entertainment shows or blog (or our twitter feed) this past week, you have heard about one of the biggest Kickstarter project for a film pretty much ever. We’re talking Veronica Mars, the cult hit that was canceled after three seasons and left an entire fandom hanging. As Kristen Bell is my celebrity bestie and Veronica Mars is probably one of my favorite TV shows ever, I NEEDED to be a part of The Veronica Mars Movie Project.
And in the way that things get meta when on the web (pretty sure that I never use that term correctly, but stay with me), not 12 hours before the Kickstarter program was announced, Elise messaged me that she found TheWB.com which has Seasons 1 and 2 of Veronica Mars for FREE. I was already 4 episodes into the rewatch when the internet blew up with tweets from Kristen Bell and the show creator Rob Thomas. It’s like I was meant to 1) donate to the program to get this movie going 2) renew my love for my celebrity bestie and 3) post about this fantastically written and acted TV show.
Despite having major names in the industry such as Joss Whedon rave about the show and even post a review on EW.com, the CW decided to make the cancellation. This blows my mind considering how long One Tree Hill lasted on the network, but I guess the ratings told the story. It’s truly a shame because I believe that it would have been a completely different story if streaming TV shows existed back when the show was on air (2004-2007). Think about it…how many shows have you started to watch religiously because you were able to catch up on Hulu or Netflix Instant watch? Better yet, if Tumblr existed back then, who could resist these gems showing up in the tumblr feed and not check out this show?

If you need more reason to watch, I am prepared:
- Part Mean Girls, Part Nancy Drew, Part Twin Peaks
- Overarching mystery keeps you enthralled and wanting more, but the “weekly” mysteries keep you satisfied
- Takes on serious subjects such as Rape, Abuse, poverty, and class inequities
- Kristen Bell at her finest: Veronica pushes everyone away — sometimes even the audience, but there’s enough spark, vulnerability, and warmth in the performance to keep you routing for the character
- Fun to spot all the current big name stars getting their feet wet in minor appearances on the show. TN favorite, Jessica Chastain has a full episode focusing on her mystery of the week.
After you have had a taste of a few episodes, please go contribute to the Veronica Mars Movie Project. Although they have hit their initial goal, adding a bit more to the pot means no sock monkeys for action sequences as body doubles.
And perhaps some of the best news for my summer plans? Veronica Mars will be at Comic Con this year with a behind the scenes documentary and hopefully some clips from the work in progress. Let the fangirling and fanboying commence.
