My friends and I call married folks who mean well but continually (and we think unintentionally) point out their married-ness and our singleness as “Smug Marrieds.” They say things like:
“It was the worst being single, I can’t imagine not being married.”
or
“My better half…”
or
“Date night with my hot hubby/bride at the Cheesecake Factory tonight… etc etc”
or
“Don’t worry, it’ll happen for you one day!” (aka everyone you meet at a wedding who isn’t sitting at the single’s table)
or

Mirrors makes me think Justin has taken his pre-marriage counseling to heart because as one of my psychologist friends (AHEM!:) say “a relationship is like a mirror of yourself. You see and learn more about yourself than that person a lot of times.” Clearly, that is super paraphrased but we get it dude, your mom gave you “The Five Love Languages” before you walked down the aisle and your memorized each page. Stop shoving Jessica Biel in our faces and showing us what we’re not! We want other things shoved in our faces. DUH.
Now, don’t get it twisted, I love me some Justin Timberlake, that beat is HOT FIRE and I’m on board like 800% for this new album and it’s super cool to see him so stoked on his relationship, but this song smacks of “Smug Married-ness.” I just hope that The 20/20 Experience (his new album) includes enough rump shakers and club bangers like “Sexy Back” and “Future Sex Love Sounds.” To make me less worried about running into JT at a wedding and having him ask me “How do you do it? You know… being single…” DRINK PLEASE!
