Driving past my local Taco Bell, I saw them advertising Doritos “Loco” tacos. You can get a hard beef taco served in your choice of Doritos shell: Nacho Cheese, Cool Ranch, or Fiery. Taco Bell is no stranger to the junk food collaboration, having served a Flamin’ Hot Cheetos menu in the past. Are they good? No idea. I haven’t eaten at a Taco Bell since 1996, but no judgment if you love that cheap grease. I typically only dine out at places that serve booze because I’m 45 and I choose my choice.
However, I would totally buy from any chain or restaurant that started a fast food collaboration with my favorite chip/salty snack: Funyuns.
Funyuns are perfect. They have been around for 50 years, so it’s a CLASSIC. They are onion-y without giving you raw onion breath or onion burps. They are yellow, the happiest color. They are rings, good for twirling. They have a delightful mouth feel, and they don’t tear up the roof of your mouth. They leave a delightful residue on your fingers (save it for later!) that doesn’t require bleach and a Magic Eraser to remove.
The branding world loves a good collab to elevate trends and build hype. Bodega x New Balance. Kim Jones x Dior. Gucci x Dapper Dan. How about we elevate our junk food with these Funyuns x collab suggestions. All free. Steal away, Madison Avenue.
