It’s bringing in three new half-hour comedies and a few dramas to keep pace with the crime fighters. There’s an FBI spin off and then there is a creepy, creepy one that I forced myself to continue watching the trailer for just so I could tell you OMG how on earth is this on network TV and not American Horror Story (I don’t know how scary that show is I don’t watch it but this creeped me out so bad I may have nightmares). It’s called Evil if you really want to read about it.
Let’s dive in!
BOB ♥ ABISHOLA
Bob sells socks and has a heart attack and ends up in the hospital. There he falls for his nurse, Abishola, played by Folake Olowofoyeku. Bob attempts to win Abishola over but this is Detroit. If CBS is truly going to take on what they call their diversity issue, are they going to address the challenges of interracial couples? Or the even bigger issue of the Flint water crisis in Michigan? One can only hope right? It looks cute but I doubt the viewers at CBS are up for this show.
ALL RISE
Simone Missick stars as Lola Carmichael who is an all-star district attorney in Los Angeles. Rising through the ranks, she’s just been appointed a judge and now on the bench, she’s ready to challenge her former colleagues and hold them accountable. All Rise is courthouse drama that looks more appealing because it’s the ins and outs of the lives of everyone working there and not just the judicial process. Also in the show is Wilson Bethel – remember Wade from Hart of Dixie and Marg Helgenberger from CSI? They round out the cast quite well!
THE UNICORN
I can understand how a widower, single dad, with a job may be a unicorn to other women. I get the concept of this show. I do. I understand how his friends want to cheer him on and help push him towards dating, my friends do this to me! I cannot get past the person they cast as the lead. Walton Goggins was the bad guy in Antman and The Wasp. I’m not saying he can’t be leading man material. I’m saying it’s not believable to me, but I may be in the minority. He just seems the villain and not up to something good.
THE UNICORN stars Walton Goggins as Wade, Rob Corddry as Forrest, Michaela Watkins as Delia, Omar Benson Miller as Ben, Maya Lynne Robinson as Michelle, Ruby Jay as Grace, and Makenzie Moss as Natalie.
CAROL’S SECOND ACT
Patricia Heaton returns to CBS as a medical intern in Carol’s Second Act. Carol has divorced her husband and raised her children and now she’s going after her dream, becoming a doctor. At 50 she has to sink or swim and go up against the interns half her age. And who knows what she’ll find along the way? Like Kyle MacLachlan, another doctor at the hospital?
EVIL
This is the scary one! The good thing about this is Mike Colter, aka Luke Cage. The rest is Evil. I mean that’s the name of the show, and it’s more than just demonic possessions. I watch Sabrina, but this trailer scared me. This show is a psychological thriller that has a psychologist, played by Katja Herbers, who joins Colter, the priest-in-training as they look into possessions and the fine line between that and insanity. Watch at your own risk.
Mid-season replacements
Unlike the other networks, CBS was ready with trailers for their mid-season replacements and you’ll notice a few familiar faces.
Broke
Pauley Perrette from NCIS and Jaime Camil from Jane the Virgin costar in Broke. Jackie (Perrette) is a single mom who answers the door one day to find her estranged sister and her husband (Camil) dropped on her door step, down on their luck, and needing a place to live. First Class meets economy in this test of family bonds.
FBI: Most Wanted
In a spin off from FBI, Julian McMahon leads the Fugitive Task Force. Kellan Lutz also stars.
TOMMY
Another network has the LA Sheriff, this is LAPD, but I think this one wins. Edie Falco looks amazing in this as the first female Chief of Police for Los Angeles. She has to tangle with the mayor and make sure LA is safe. It looks like a good show.
