The Perfect Letter follows Leigh Merrill, an eager young book editor on the fast track at a major New York City publishing house as she returns to her childhood home of Austin, Texas for the first time in ten years. Faced with a marriage proposal she isn’t ready to accept, Leigh sees the Austin Writer’s Conference as the perfect escape—just a few days away to catch up with old friends and clear her mind. But for Leigh, going home also means facing the dark secret, and former lover, that have haunted her since she was a girl. With her past and present crashing in around her, Leigh must decide just how much she’s willing to risk for love.
I have to admit guys, I liked it. It only took me about 20 pages to completely forget that I was reading a book written by “the Bachelor guy” and it just became a fun read. It was a sweet story about young love interrupted by a series of events that kept you guessing, but still had that wrapped up sweet ending that any good romance reader loves. I’d put it firmly in the vein of a Nicholas Sparks novel and that’s not necessarily a bad thing, considering Sparks’ name has sold millions of books and movies while simultaneously advertising for North Carolina’s tourism board.
The Perfect Letter is a bit of a love letter to Texas where Chris Harrison grew up, as it alternates between Leigh’s past on her grandfather’s horse farm and her present at a writer’s conference in Austin. Without spoiling the plot, she is stuck between wanting to embrace her new life in New York with a stable man who loves her and returning to her Texan roots where her teenage love and a dark past call to her. The romance is well established and believable while the love scenes are tame (okay, so it’s the exact opposite of an episode of Bachelor in Paradise). All in all, I enjoyed it. I only wish they were releasing it a little sooner because, it would have been the perfect Mother’s Day gift for my mom and sister.

Don’t forget that The Bachelorette airs every Monday night! I’m about 95 weeks pregnant, but not even childbirth can stop me from watching and recapping. Can’t wait to watch this season with you and I know I’ll be looking at Chris Harrison with a whole new set of eyes now that he’s a legit author.
