And so without anything on my TV, I’ve been reading a lot. “Reading is good,” you say! “Readers are leaders!” I hear my dad’s voice say. Yeah, I dunno that Hilary Clinton, Arianna Huffington and Oprah are reading as much Erotica & Regency Romance as I’ve gone through in the last 12 weeks, Daddy..
So needless to say, I welcome Fall and its terrible line up of new shows (except for you Selfie– I really liked your pilot) to give me something to DO at night when I’m drinking my wine. (For the record, I did not finish OITNB. I don’t know why. And I did not like The Leftovers) But there was ONE Summer exception:
Tyrant on FX
I feel ashamed that it’s taken me so long to tell you I binged watched Tyrant on FX one week this summer. And THIS show fulfilled my summer TV need. It was INCREDIBLE.
Real quick synopsis: Barry Al-Fayeed (Adam Rayner) is a doctor in Pasadena, CA who takes his American family back “home” for his nephew’s wedding to his birth country where his father is the controversial dictator. As its Barry’s first trip home in over 20 years, the trip is wrought with a mixture of apprehension on Barry’s part over wanting nothing to do with his family, the politics and a complicated relationship with a father he fears and his family’s excitement over seeing where he is from while receiving the royal treatment (as they are royal, for all intensive purposes). Without giving too much of the fabulous pilot episode away, Barry and his family end up staying in his birth country, helping to navigate through a changing political scene.
No- this is not like “Not without my Daughter” that movie you watch on Lifetime every time you come across it late at night (with Sally Fields!) but a much sexier, much darker and very realistic look at the political turmoil that many middle eastern countries have seen in recent years or are currently going through.
Sound a little “heavy” for a late-summer binge watch? Oh have no fear. Here is the REAL reason why you should be watching it.
Meet Adam Rayner
Adam Rayner plays Barry Al-Fayeed the lead character in Tyrant.
Adam is British, as I’m sure you assumed since no one American is this attractive. And because E.G.B.T.T. (Everything goes back to Twilight), I feel I have to point out that in 2013 he moved to NYC to shoot Tracers a film starring Taylor Lautner (due out later this year).
But here is what you’re really waiting for: The TN Test for Hotness
How does Adam look in a tight white t-shirt?
Umm…. I’ll take it.
How does Adam look in a suit in the middle of the desert?
Is Adam Rayner Gif-able?
I believe so.
Can Adam pull off hot-in-glasses?
When Adam is shirtless & yelling, does it make it hotter or less hot?
Hotter. Definitely Hotter
So if I haven’t convinced you yet, you must binge-watch Tyrant before it disappears off the interwebs for Fall programming. There are only 10 episodes, they are EASILY watched because of All the HOT reasons mentioned above, plus the good story, great supporting characters including a few HOT women and just a very timely story that puts some world events in perspective. Go! Watch! Now!
Did you watch Tyrant this summer? Think Adam Rayner can make your Do-able list?
