Do you have a real life superpower?

in on 07/17/13 by Guest Contributor 4 Comments

With all the recent super hero movies and coverage of San Diego Comic-Con, I am fondly reminded of one of my favorite “SNL deep thinking with Jack Handy” type conversations.

Much time and philosophical effort was spent by my friends discussing what real life superpowers look like. We have theory that most of us actually have a super power. However, real people don’t exactly do the sexy stuff like fly or have x-ray vision or shrink to the size of a grain of rice. So, if my friends and I are correct, what do super powers look like in the real life?

The Super Parker

My buddy always magically gets the best parking spot close to the venue and it’s usually free. In our hometown, out-of-town vacationing – doesn’t matter. It’s like he can conjure Platform 9 3/4 out of a regular wall at the train station. If your friend’s ability kinda freaks you out, it should be deemed a super power.

Another dear friend is a super sleeper. She can sleep at any moment, in any place, at any time, blissfully undisturbed – cars, noisy hotel rooms, subways, planes. A butterfly sneezes and I wake up so I am in awe. Definitely a super power.

This would be my super power. I have a weird magnet for drawing memorable people into my space. The guy that eats dry cat food like popcorn on the bus? Yep, he’s going to sit with me. And politely offer me a sample of his snack. Weird over-sharer at the gym? 100% chance they’ll be on the treadmill next to me.

But, I’ve also run into Paris Hilton in the shoe department of Macy’s (not kidding) and in a two hour period had Halle Berry sit next to me in a cafe, leave to find an Olsen twin leaning on my car, stop by a baby clothing store to find Angelina Jolie the only other shopper, and see Blake Lively at the park. That. Does. Not. Really. Happen. Yet is totally does happen to me. Good or bad, my friends say this is my super power!

So what do you think? Are real life super powers a thing? Do you or a friend have one? If you could have a power, what would it be? I’d like to add eating cupcakes without consuming calories but that would probably be considered a super duper power and isn’t possible. Hope to hear yours in the comments.
