Apparently there is another holiday coming up this week, but this is the most important day in all of December. Today (at least in the US) is National Sangria Day! Honestly, it seems a bit odd that this day is in December, since I’ve always thought of sangria as more of a summer beverage, but let’s go with it.
Have last minute holiday shopping to complete? Ignore it. Deciding on a menu for the weekend? Order some pizza and stick it in the freezer. There’s nothing better to do with your day today than to whip up some of this delicious stuff, because Christmas is terrible. I don’t want to be a “drink your way through the holidays” type of person, and I’m not actually that big of a drinker myself. I like sangria mostly because it’s fruity and it looks pretty. Alcohol tastes gross, and anything that disguises it is up my alley. I have very unsophisticated taste in drinks and I won’t apologize.
Long story short, sangria is the best. Look how happy all this fruit is to be a part of it! They want to take a long swim in some wine.
I couldn’t do a post on sangria without providing a way that you can actually have some. I looked around for some recipes and picked a few that looked particularly festive.
Since sangria gets better and better the longer it sits, you could make it today and sip on that stuff from now until Christmas. You may run out of wrapping paper, but you’ll probably care a little bit less.
Happy Sangria Day everyone! Do you have a good recipe? If so, pass it on in the comments.
