It’s been awhile since we’ve checked in with Normal Girl Beauty expert Tiff. We love hearing her advice on how we can look our best with the power of approximately 20-35 different products from Mac ranging in price from $35-$59 for 2-3 ounces. LOL Jk. The great thing about Tiff is that she has introduced me to some really great products that did NOT break the bank. BUT… Tiff is a make-up whore (I say that lovingly) who loves using lots of products. That isn’t reality for everyone nor does everyone have the TIME to spend contouring and fake-eyelash-gluing their face every day. I had two questions for Normal Girl Beauty that I sent to Tiff under a pseudonym so you guys would’t know it was me, and she combined the answers. Enjoy!
QDear Normal Girl Beauty,
I love wearing make-up. I love a good winged cat-eye and a dark red cherry lip. I love feeling feminine and made-up, and I’ve never been one to shy away from a dark black eye liner.
However as I’ve aged (hi 30s) I’ve valued sleep over primping in the mornings. But I’m not 21 and can no longer rock the no-make-up-on-my-way-to-8-am-class look. I need to look professional and presentable (and pretty, the 3 P’s), but I don’t want to spend the time pulling out my Naked 3 pallet and messing with lots of different powders. What can I do in the mornings that doesn’t take much time at all so that I can still hit snooze but not look like I did?
Snoozing in Seattle
(Jk, I’m in Philly and I got up at 6:45 this morning)
QDear Normal girl Beauty,
I would like to look like Olivia Palermo.
She’s effortlessly, classically beautiful and it looks like she wears little to no make-up at all.
Pathetic in Philadelphia
A Dear Pathetic in Philadelphia,
Sorry to tell you this but Olivia Palermo probably never gets to hit the snooze button before being photographed in public. She also most likely has three well paid hair and makeup artists creating her “no makeup” flawless look. What you can do is take care of your skin. That’s half the battle. Get a good night time skin regimen that works for you. It might take a while to find the right mix for you but don’t loose heart.
Don’t drink alcohol in excess (hahaha, good luck. I know you love your wine.) Don’t smoke; Get lots of sleep, and drink a lot of water. One of the great things about being in your thirties is you now have an excuse to spend a little more money on good products (at least that’s what I tell myself). The poor college days are over, and it’s time to treat yo self.
You don’t need to be fancy everyday. Foundation, blush, brows and mascara really shouldn’t take more than 5-7 minutes. If you want some eye shadow, prime your eyes quickly with MAC Painterly (I use my ring finger from lid to brow) and sweep a neutral color (about 1-2 shades darker than your skin tone) all over your lid. I like Omega from MAC.
Get a nice brow highlight to pop under your brow. I like Rice Paper from MAC (eyeshadow). If you really want to be fancy, pop a Soft brown color in your crease and call it good.
Forget the pressure to contour and look flawless just find a five minute face that works for you and as always find a killer lip stick to match your look.
Thanks Tiff! I hate that you ruined the fantasy that I could potentially look like Olivia Palermo after just 5 minutes in the bathroom on my way out the door. Are you telling me she does things other than just eat fruits and veggies and an organic juice each morning to get that body too?
