I am a little late to the vacation party this year. School is about ready to start and we are finally getting around to checking “Family Vacation” off of the list. So much of our summer has been dictated by work deadlines and summer camps and now we are ready to get serious. Which quickly gets my brain going to the most important vacation factor: What am I going to read? The great thing about being so busy is that I have a stack of hot reads waiting for me. I’ve been all over the board with WWI historical novels to some pretty hot reads that have been discussed on the That’s Normal Twitter. It’s time to focus and get some of the best books of summer checked off of my “To Read” list.
Nothing but love for Jojo
source
Jojo Moyes released One Plus One and I have to admit that I started it, but life got in the way. I am now ready to commit to falling in love with more of Jojo’s characters. She writes a great strong female lead who isn’t going to let life roll over her. I think that Jess is going to fit nicely into this roll.
Required Summer Reading
Jennifer Wiener is back with All Fall Down. She has been on my personal required summer reading list for several years. All Fall Down is her newest, and I have to admit that I am slightly afraid. Weiner hooked me years ago with Good In Bed. She had a great lead that went through some tough stuff. This newest book doesn’t disappoint in the hard-hitting subject material. I have not read any of it yet, and I think that I am afraid. The story is about a woman who seems to have it all: perfect family, house, career, and how she is really struggling with it behind the scenes. I already have anxiety thinking about what she is going to go through.
Rainbow’s Back
What can I say about Rainbow Rowell that hasn’t already been covered by That’s Normal? Trust me when I say READ HER BOOKs. Landline is the newest and it will be conquered this weekend.
Final in a Trilogy
There have been some great trilogies wrapping up this summer. Leigh Bardugo and Stephanie Perkins are two such writers that really deserve their own posts. My vacation stack today includes Deborah Harkness’s All Souls Finale The Book of Life. The second book did not quite entertain me the way that the first one did. We shall see if the last one helps me to rekindle my love for Diana and Matthew.
Last but not least.
Liane Moriarty is back with Big Little Lies. I recently read The Husband’s Secret and I’ve read some pretty great reviews for Big Little Lies. I might have to bump this one to the top of the stack.
I know I am a bit behind on reading some of these great books. Which ones have you read? What order should I read them in? Do you have any additions that you would make?
